Green Tea Extract Weight Loss? Hype and Reality

Consider this: 1 pound of fat is equal to about 3500 calories.

It does not matter what method you use to lose weight. You have to maintain a weekly calorie deficit of about 3500 calories below the normal amount consumed in your diet. This calorie deficit can come through the change of diet, through exercise, or both. If you would like to lose about 1 pound a week, you would have to maintain about a 500 calories deficit a day.

Researchers suggest that one should drink about 5 cups of green tea a day. This will result in burning an extra 70 to 80 calories. Well, 70-80 calories per day is not quite a 500 calorie deficit needed to lose 1 pound a week. Green tea is a metabolism booster. Clearly, drinking it alone is not going to be satisfactory for significant weight loss. Still, it can still be quite useful as a weight loss aid.

Experts also tell us that green tea may help slow down the rise in blood sugar after a meal. This prevents fat storage. Appetite reduction is another effect of consuming this herbal product. This may have something to do with the blood sugar regulating effects of green tea.

You may have heard that green tea is the weight loss solution. The key here is balance. You are not eating 5000 calories a day, then drink a cup, and make all the calories go away. Or drink nothing but tea all day. It just is not going to happen. A healthy diet and increased exercise will go a long way in helping you lose weight and keep it off.

Green will have the long term effect. It has been used for more than 4000 years in China and most parts of Asia for treating a wide variety of illness.
